What Vocal Recording at StudioToGo Involves
Vocal recording is the most important session many artists will do, and the one where the room, the gear, and the engineer make the most noticeable difference. At StudioToGo, vocals are recorded in a dedicated booth — a physically separate space from the control room — which eliminates bleed, keeps the acoustic environment consistent, and lets you focus on performing rather than worrying about noise.
The signal chain starts with a Neumann U87 Ai, one of the most trusted large-diaphragm condensers in professional recording. It runs through an Avalon VT-737sp, a tube preamp and compressor that adds body and warmth without obscuring detail. The combination is particularly well-suited to voices — it captures breath, consonants, and dynamics without flattering things artificially.
The Recording Process
We typically start with a few warm-up takes to dial in levels and confirm the singer is comfortable. From there we work in sections — verse, chorus, bridge — doing multiple passes and building up a pool of takes to comp from. Punch-ins are used to fix specific lines without re-recording full sections. We track doubles and adlibs in the same session unless you prefer to do those separately.
What you take away: A rough mix of your vocal on the beat or instrumental you came in with, so you can hear how it sits before the mixing stage.
Who This Is For
Vocal recording sessions at StudioToGo are booked by singers, rappers, voice artists, and anyone who needs clean, professionally captured vocals. Whether you're recording an original song, a cover, a feature, or a demo, the process is the same — get the performance right, and everything else becomes easier downstream. If you need a beat or instrumental to record to, see our beat making service. If you're recording a podcast or voiceover rather than music, we handle those separately — see podcast recording and voiceover services.
